Dorothy (Lowell) Wakker
December 9, 1924 - June 1, 2018
Dorothy Wakker, 93, lifelong resident of Syracuse, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving husband and children. In 1982, she retired from New York Telephone and for 64 years she enjoyed their summer home on Cross Lake.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling, collectibles, playing her piano and organ, and playing cards, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Erwin Methodist Church, the Twin and Triplets Club, Golden Girls Telephone Pioneers, and Lyncourt Seniors.
Survivors include her husband, of 71 years, Walter D.; sons, Lowell (Kim), Neal (Candy), Bruce (Kitty) and Paul Wakker; daughters, Wendy (Tom) Larkin and Laurie (Rich) Cecconi; grandchildren, Brian (Jocelyn) Larkin, Kristen (Mike) Better, Erika (Gerry) Anderson, Danielle (Peter) Yango, Mallory (Josh) Little, Dr. Stephen (Emer) Cecconi, Dr. John (Rachael) Cecconi and Ryan Wakker; great-grandchildren; Emily and Matthew Better, Skylar and Kylie Anderson, Avery Yango, Lily and Everly Larkin, Daniel and Claire Little and had a special lasting relationship with Ellen, Rosemary and Donna. Calling hours will be Monday, June 4th, from 10:30 am to 1 pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse followed by services at 1 pm. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Crouse Hospital, Bishop Rehab., and Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of CNY and Smiletrain.org.
