Obituary for Frederick C. Scharoun

Frederick C. Scharoun
January 18, 1927 - November 1, 2018
Frederick C. Scharoun, 91, of Syracuse passed away Thursday at his home. Fred was an Army Veteran, serving during World War II. He returned to the states and began a career in law enforcement. He retired in 1986 as First Deputy Police Chief, after 37 years of service with the Syracuse Police Department. Fred was an avid outdoorsmen, who enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his greatest enjoyment came from time spent with his cherished family. He was known for his woodworking skills and worked on countless projects for family and friends. His beloved wife, of nearly 50 years, Lois had predeceased him in 2001. Survivors include his children, Christine Cameron, Michael and David (Maureen) Scharoun; his grandchildren, Nicole, Danielle, Lindsey, Amanda, Kourtney, Ryan, Steven, Lisa Marie and Kimberly Susan; his eighteen great-grandchildren and his brother, Edward. Calling hours will Tuesday, Nov. 6th, 4 to 7 pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 am in St. Vincent de Paul Church, followed by burial with military honors in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
