Obituary for Martin D. McCann

Martin D. McCann
July 30, 1953 - February 4, 2019
Martin D. McCann, 65, of Rochester, NY passed away peacefully on Monday in the comfort of his daughter’s home surrounded by family, in a room filled with love, with his hands held tight. Marty was born July 30, 1953, to the late Stephen Jr. and Bernice (Gaudet) McCann of Syracuse, NY. Marty worked tirelessly for many years as a construction worker as part of Rochester Labor Union 435 before retiring. He was proud of and loved the South Wedge neighborhood where he lived. He could always be found enjoying a cup of coffee, taking a warm sunny walk, working on a crossword puzzle, appreciating a good song or laughing with friends.

Marty is survived by his adoring daughter, Caitlin (Frank) Randall; by his sisters, Sister Eileen McCann, CSJ, Maureen Nicholas and Sharon Gray; by his brothers, Stephen III and Barry (Donna) and by his loving companion, Susan Fries. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marty will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a devoted father, loving brother, steadfast worker and friend to everyone he met. His warm and friendly smile, generosity, infectious laugh, ability to find humor in everything, intelligence and grit will not be forgotten. His light heartedness and warmth of spirit brightened the lives of those he touched and helped to make the world around him a better place.

Calling hours will be held from 9 to 11 am on Saturday, February 9th, at All Saints Church, 1340 Lancaster Ave, Syracuse, NY 13210, followed by a funeral mass. Contributions may be made in Marty’s memory to Lifetime Care Hospice, 3111 S. Winton Road Rochester, NY 14623. Online condolences at CarterFuneralHome.com.
