Obituary for Sister Mary Nicholas Amodio

Sister Mary Nicholas (Ellen Catherine) Amodio, OSF
Sister Mary Nicholas went home to God on Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Franciscan Villa in Syracuse, N.Y. Sister was born in Utica, New York to Nicholas and Rose Flecca Amodio. Sister was 93 years old and had been a Sister of St. Francis for 72 years. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from St. Joseph’s College in Collegeville, Indiana and a Master’s Degree in Religious Education (Administration) from La Salle College in Philadelphia. She was also a certified Chaplain. Sister served as Religious Education Teacher and DRE for 32 years and Diocesan Director of Religious Education in the Eastern Region of NY. She also ministered as a Pastoral Associate in Endicott, NY. Sister served as a Chaplain for 13 years at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Utica, NY; Mercy Rehab Center in Auburn, NY. and as a Prison Chaplain in Taft, California. She completed her ministry in her beloved Mt. Carmel where she received the sacraments and where the seed of her vocation was planted and nourished. One of her loves was teaching Life in the Spirit Seminars as it brought people closer to Jesus. She will remain in the hearts of those who knew her as a very prayerful, gentle, energetic, fun-loving person and as one who reached out to everyone. Most memorable will be her beautiful, spontaneous smile that spoke volumes. She is predeceased by her parents, and two sisters, Mary and brother-in-law Dr. Carl Marlow and Victoria (Rocco) Montesano. Sister is survived by her sister, Jean (Frank) Barletta, many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and the Sisters of St. Francis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Franciscan Villa Chapel, 6900 Buckley Road, Syracuse, NY 13212 on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Calling hours will be at the Chapel from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. A farewell service will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities, Mission Advancement Office, 6900 Buckley Road, Syracuse, NY 13212.
